Evaluate operational performance across diverse healthcare organizations.

Although I have a lot of clinical experience, I am quite limited in my knowledge of other clinics and processes. Also, being a clinical healthcare provider does not prepare you for the administrative side of healthcare by any stretch of the imagination. In Healthcare Operations and Project Management HCA 740, we were given a group assignment with a scenario most of us were unfamiliar with. For this assignment the group had to research facts and other similar scenarios to give us enough information to use some of the tools we had learned about throughout the program. Some of these tools included DMAIC tables, Project Charters, and a Communication Plan.

The PowerPoint slides below were another part of my Human Capital Management project. At the time this project was assigned to us, I had been dealing with the nurses in the Radiation Oncology department. The nurses felt that I needed to hire another nurse to help with all the work they had to do. I immediately saw this as an opportunity to roll real-life work into my school assignment, or vice versa. Although the department was denied an additional FTE, this project did help solve some operational performance issues. I was able to apply the 7 elements of a people-centered culture to the situation and we came up with a solution that ended up working out quite well.
