Demonstrate strategic leadership and decision-making skills necessary in healthcare.

One of the biggest political, governmental and ethical issues the United States has dealt with in recent history is the COVID-19 pandemic and whether or not people should get vaccinated. In my Health Law and Policy class, I chose to analyze and respond to some trends we were seeing in my local part of rural Virginia. In the following Policy Analysis, I looked at vaccination trends within the county I worked in as well as throughout the rest of the state. This document takes into account population health management as well as healthcare delivery and the influence my organization had on the community.

My capstone project involved change management in regard to an additional treatment machine. This will potentially increase the quality of care we offer our patients by allowing the team to spend more time with patients during their appointments. Employee burnout and turnover should also be reduced due to a less stressful work environment. My hope is that employees that are less stressed and happier at their work, will create a more positive environment for our patients and give the patients the best possible treatment we can offer. Please see the Capstone Project page for more details on this.

An example of how I have grown throughout this program can be seen below. This paper was written fairly early in my coursework, and I believe it was one of the first big steppingstones that helped me form my leadership philosophy towards the end of my coursework. It is important to note, that although an employee-focused culture is important to maintain, we cannot let this take precedence over patient care. The needs of our patients should always come first. Before decisions are made to make our coworkers happy, we need to be sure that this will not negatively affect patient care.
